The Stress Of Public Speaking - 1582 Words
If anybody asked me what are the hardest experiences Iââ¬â¢ve ever gone through, my top three would be my esophageal surgery, volleyball conditioning, and public speaking. Naturally, Iââ¬â¢m a quiet introvert who doesnââ¬â¢t like to push myself socially unless itââ¬â¢s necessary. Although I sound antisocial, I do like to contribute and offer my opinions, just in a less stressful environment. Public speaking goes against everything I am because it asks me to speak to a larger audience when I prefer one on one conversations. Then, Iââ¬â¢m put under severe physical and emotional duress and the force of it all leaves me exhausted as if I just ran a mile. Lastly, I become so nervous that my body begins shaking uncontrollably as adrenaline rushes throughout myâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Luckily, I was able to perform my entire speech around five to six minutes, which was a goal I had struggled to obtain in practice. To hasten my speech, I needed to talk much faster and r emove specific information from my speech. Despite it being a success, some people discerned that I talked too fast during my presentation which could have been true. All in all, my speech topic was well fitted to the role, and it was even inspired by my personal experiences. Even though my topic was interesting, it isnââ¬â¢t a fact everyone would know about already. What inspired me to deliver a speech on green iguanas was my mother and my heritage. My mother is Puerto Rican which means I am half Puerto Rican. Iââ¬â¢m extremely proud of my heritage, so every once and a while I like to learn and further my knowledge of Puerto Rico. When I visited Puerto Rico a couple years ago with my family, it was a life changing experience. Despite the language barrier, I was able to meet some of my relatives for the first time. It was amazing to see my mother as our interpreter on the trip. As a result of that vacation, I became closer to my family than I had before. While we were there my mother warned us about the lizard problem in Puerto Rico. At first, I dismissed her statement and believed that she was exaggerating, but as we went around the island I realized that it was bigger and more real than I ever believed.
